It originated from a single frame in a 1941 Looney Tunes cartoon where Bugs Bunny briefly inflates himself, and this image was later paired with the made-up word "Chungus." The meme became popular online as a humorous exaggeration of Bugs Bunny and has since spread widely across social media platforms. ## What is Big Chungus and where did it come from? Big Chungus comes from a 1941 Warner Bros. cartoon called "Wabbit Twouble," starring Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. In one brief scene, Bugs inflates himself to mock Elmer, appearing unusually large and round. This single frame showing a chubby Bugs Bunny was later captioned "Big Chungus" by internet users. The word "Chungus" was originally coined by a video game journalist years before but had no connection to Bugs Bunny until paired with this image. Together, they created the iconic Big Chungus figure now recognized online. ![Bugs Bunny inflated to a large size in a scene from the cartoon Wabbit Twouble.](https://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?q=Bugs%20Bunny%20inflated%20cartoon%20character%20from%20Wabbit%20Twouble%20photo&w=624&h=352&c=7) ## How did Big Chungus become an internet meme?
